Yamaguchi Prefecture is located in the Chugoku region, on Honshu island. It is a quiet place, full of mountains and green landscapes in summer. As some touristic spots can be far from train stations, it would be a good idea to travel by car.
One of the cities with the most beautiful places is Mine (美祢市). Here, you can find Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park, which includes the Akiyoshodai and Akiyoshido.
Akiyoshidai views are incredible. As we went on summer, we could see everything green, sunny and bright. The first impression was to be inside a painting or looking at the Windows wallpaper.
On the other hand, Akiyoshido is Japan`s longest cave. It is a Special Natural Monument and is really big.
This cave is up to 100 meters wide and has 8.79 kilometers of passages. We could walk approximately one kilometer and see inside the cave. There were many interesting rock shapes. It is very safe to go inside, as it has got a walkway and bridge system. There is an exit at either side of the cave, so you can as well go on one side and get out through the other, or walk all the way and then return. Is up to you!
If you like fruits, you can also visit Akiyoshi farmgarden. It has blueberrys that you can directly eat from the trees. It is a tabehodai, which means you can eat all the sweet and juicy blueberrys you want.
Located in the north west of Yamaguchi, we found Tsunoshima island, as part of Shimonoseki city. You can get to this island through Tsunoshima bridge and then get a beautiful view of the beach.
There is also a lighthouse, which is famous because is one of only six lighthouses in Japan.
There are beautiful views around this place, you can visit the beach and relax (just be careful with the wind, it can be very strong!). Also, you can try tasty grilled squid that is first dried in a very funny way!
